2009 - 2010
The Annual National Institute (ANI) was held in June, 2010 in Las Vegas. As usual, at the Banquet the Alabama Chapter of HFMA was honored with awards celebrating another successful year for the Chapter. Results for the year are as follows:
Membership ended the year with a final count of 574 – This earned the Chapter the Bronze Award of Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention.
The goal for Certification was met by exceeding the goal of exams taken. Goal was set at 14 and 16 were obtained. The Chapter received the Silver Award of Excellence for Certification.
Education hours per member ended at 15.6 hours per member surpassing the goal of 13.6. This earned the Chapter a John M Stagl Silver Award of Excellence for Education.

The Chapter was recognized with one individual Yerger Award and three Multi-State Yerger Awards.

2008 - 2009
What a night to remember! The Alabama Chapter of HFMA was honored at the 2009 Annual National Institute (ANI) in Seattle, Washington on June 15, 2009 for its outstanding accomplishments during the past year.
The Chapter received the Charles F. Mehler Gold Award for Excellence in Education and the C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement. The Chapter held numerous educational events totaling 13,570.47 registrant hours which equates to 23.48 educational hours per member. These events included institutes, forums and workshops organized to educate members on various issues affecting the healthcare industry.
The Chapter also received the Bronze Award for Excellence in Certification ending the year with 7 passed exams and the Bronze Award for Membership Growthand Retention ending the year with 585 members.
In addition, the Chapter received a total of six Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Awards. These awards recognize chapters who have achieved outstanding performance in programs, services and administration. The Alabama Chapter received awards in the following areas:

2007 - 2008
The National Healthcare Financial Management Association celebrated the year’s accomplishments in June 2008 during its 55th Annual Chapter Presidents Dinner and Meeting at their Annual National Institute in Las Vegas.
The Alabama Chapter’s leadership was present and received the Charles F. Mehler Gold Award for Excellence in Education and the C. Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement.
In addition, the Chapter received a total of three Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Awards. These awards recognize chapters who have achieved outstanding performance in programs, services and administration. The Alabama Chapter received awards in the following areas:

2006 - 2007
The HFMA’s Silver Award of Excellence for Certification and the Bronze Award of Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention were presented to the Alabama Chapter in June 2007 during the 54th Annual Chapter Presidents Dinner and Meeting at HFMA’s Annual National Institute in San Diego, California. The Award of Excellence for Certification recognizes chapters that achieve outstanding performance in certification support. The honor is based on an increase in the number of chapter members who pass a certification examination in the chapter year. The Award of Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention recognizes chapters that achieve outstanding performance in membership growth and retention. The honor is based on the percent of net membership growth at the end of the chapter year.
The Alabama Chapter went on to receive five Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Awards which recognizes chapters for outstanding performance achieved by excellent efforts in programs, services, and administration.
HFMA President and CEO, Richard L. Clarke, says, “The Alabama Chapter provides a great example for HFMA’s 2007-08 Chairman’s theme —Make a Difference. So many of their members are actively involved…contributing, sharing, and making a difference. Everyone applauds their family spirit, which shines through their many accomplishments. ”

2005 - 2006
Another stellar year! The John M. Stagl Silver Award for Excellence for Education, the Gold Award of Excellence for New Member Retention and the Gold Award of Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention were presented to the Chapter during the Annual National Institute in Orlando, Florida. Additionally, the Alabama Chapter received six Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Awards. Three individual chapter and three multi-chapter awards were received in the following areas: Education (3), Collaboration (2) and Membership Recruitments & Retention (1).

2004 – 2005
The Alabama Chapter of HFMA was honored at the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s 2005 Annual National Institute (ANI) in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 27, 2005 for its outstanding accomplishments during the year.
The Chapter received the John M. Stagl Silver Award for Excellence for Education for its efforts related to the 19 Chapter educational events held during the year totaling 11,155 total registrant hours which equates to 17.90 registrant hours per Alabama Chapter member. These events included institutes, forums, and workshops organized to educate members on various issues affecting the healthcare industry.
The Chapter also received the Bronze Award for Excellence for Certification. This award is in recognition for outstanding performance in certification. The Alabama Chapter ended the year with seven passed certification exams.
In addition, the Chapter received a total of six Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Awards. These awards recognize chapters who have achieved outstanding performance in programs, services, and administration. The Alabama Chapter received these awards in the following areas:

2003-2004
The Alabama Chapter of HFMA was honored at the Healthcare Financial Management Association's 2004 Annual National Institute (ANI) in Nashville, Tennessee on June 28, 2004, for its outstanding accomplishments during the year.

The Chapter received the Charles F. Mehler Gold Award of Excellence for Education for its efforts related to the 23 Chapter Educational Events totaling 13,100 total registrant hours- which equates to 21.58 registrant hours per Alabama HFMA member. These events included institutes, forums, and workshops organized to educate its members on various issues affecting the healthcare industry. In addition , the Alabama Chapter also received the Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance Improvement Award for having a 14.42% increase in registered hours from the previous year. Several individuals in the Chapter made extra efforts in helping us achieve this remarkable increase. Many thanks to our Forum leaders, Linda Maddox, PFS, Jenny Wakeford, CFO and Maron Boohaker , Compliance. Between the three Forums alone, the Chapter offered over 850 hours in workshops on top of our regularly scheduled Institutes. Also special thanks to our Institute Vice Presidents, Jon Kimsey, Stephanie Martin, Cindi Barksdale and Kim Shrewsbury for the Institutes during the year.
The Chapter also received the Silver Award of Excellence for Membership Growth. This award is in recognition for outstanding performance in membership growth. The Alabama Chapter ended the year with 623 members, which was an increase of 103 or a 2.64% increase. Special thanks to Pollyanna Brannon, who in her role as Membership Chair, continues to find ways to get us all excited with recruitment.



In addition, the Chapter received a total of 7 Helen M. Yerger Recognition Awards. These awards recognize chapters who have achieved outstanding performance with excellent efforts in programs, services, and administration. The Alabama Chapter received these awards by achieving excellence as follows:

2002-2003
The Alabama Chapter continued its role as an organization that offers excellent education to the membership. The results were winning four Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Awards in Education, and a Silver Award of Excellence in Education. We had three members become certified and began the implementation of a new web site to parallel National HFMA's goals.

2001-2002
The Alabama Chapter revamped its strategic plan to focus on membership growth and advocacy while maintaining its longstanding tradition of excellence in education. These efforts resulted in the receipt of Gold Awards for Education and Membership Growth, a Silver Award for Certification, and six Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Awards in the following areas: Education (2), Collaboration (2), Improvement (1), and Innovation (1).
Highlights of the year included the development of HFMA's first exclusively electronic Membership Directory, implementation of a stringent Chapter treasury management plan, the passage of nine certification exams by Chapter members, and the provision of 24.89 educational hours per member.
The Alabama Chapter Board returned from HFMA’s Annual National Institute in Seattle in June, 2002, with the privilege of accepting the following awards on behalf of the Chapter:
- Gold Award for Education Activity
- Gold Award for Membership Growth
- Silver Award for Certification Activity
Six Helen M. Yerger Special Achievement Awards for:
- Collaboration (the 2002 Region V Dixie Institute)
- Education (the 2001 Annual Institute)
- Education (the 2001 Fall Institute)
- Innovation (the Chapter’s Virtual Annual Membership Directory)
- Improvement (the Chapter’s 2001-2002 Internal Treasury Management Program)
- Collaboration (the 2002 HIPAA Roundtable with Children's Health System)
This level of recognition was surpassed by only one Chapter in the entire Association. Congratulations to Paul T. Graham, 2001-2002 Chapter President and to the entire Alabama Chapter.


2000-2001
The Alabama Chapter won the Charles F. Mehler Gold Award of Excellence for Education, The C. Henry Hottum Award for Significant Improvement in Education, The Bronze Award of Excellence for Certification, and seven Helen M. Yerger Special Recognition Awards in the following areas: Education (2), Member Service (2), Collaboration (2), and Improvement.
