Richard attended the University of Texas at Arlington, graduating in 1982 with a B.A. in Accounting. He obtained his CPA license in 1990. Richard began his career in healthcare in 1987 with Bayfront Medical Center. He has also worked with Tampa General Hospital and the University of South Florida Eye Institute both located in Tampa, Florida. In January of 1991, he came to Opelika to take the Controller's position at East Alabama Medical Center and he is now the Director of Budgeting at EAMC.
Richard has been a member of HFMA since 1991, serving as the Summer Institute Program Chairman for five years and Vice President of Sponsorship for three years. Married with two children, Richard and his wife Kathy are now experiencing the "empty nest" syndrome. His daughter Katrina attends the University of South Carolina, and his son is attending Southern Union State Community College. Richard spends his new found "free" time working in the children's ministry at FBC Opelika, refereeing high school athletic events, and selling everything imaginable on eBay. |

| Associate Professor for healthcare finance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has a Ph.D. in Health Services Organization and Policy, with a finance specialty, and a Master’s degree in Applied Economics, both from the University of Michigan, and a Master’s degree in Management from Troy State University. Current research interest include cost effectiveness, cost analysis of heathcare services, mapping of financial processes, and simulation modeling. In addition to his educational and research background in healthcare, Jeff has several years of applied healthcare experience, having worked for six years in hospitals as a radiology department director, business office manager, and as an assistant hospital administrator, as well as three years of health insurance sales. Before joining the UAB faculty, he did research for the American College of Radiology, conducting studies of the employment market for radiologists, utilization of healthcare services, comparisons of the economic costs of cancer detection and treatment procedures, evaluation of practice expenses for physician practices, and studies of the workload in radiology practices. |
